First Baptist Church of South San Francisco, established in 1944, is a Bibliocentric Reformed tradition Church. When a new doctrine was proposed to John Knox, he said "Show it to me in the Book." In this we thoroughly agree with that Reformation leader.
Our pastor, Reverend Gary E. Smith, was a CW2 helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army. He is a holder of 36 air medals, Distinguished Flying Cross & other medals.He was then a sergeant for the San Bernardino County Sherif Avaition division from which he retired. Receiving his B.A. from California Baptist University and his Masters program at the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is an historical Bible scholar seeking to teach the deep wonder and beauty to be found in a profound knowledge of the written Word of God.
Our Liturgist and soloist, Reverend Cynthia M. Smith, a disably retired federal police officer, received her BA from California Baptist University and also studied at Golden Gate. Her studies and her continuing study of the nature of biblically correct worship, and her love for the poetry and music of the Liturgical drama has resulted in a beautiful and moving worship service.
Our Assistant Pastor, Brother Sebastian Chavez has spent many years in a counseling ministry. He is preparing for ordination, and teaching at our K-12 Academy.
